Wow.
Judiths story was very breathe taking. I find it amazing how someone could still servive after what she had to go through. It must have been really hard to saty alive at that point. I cant imagine what it would be like to not have food when you wanted it. That goes to show how blessed we are to livein homes where we can get it whenever we want.
Hello Sydney! I hope you're having a very good week!
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Judith's story, I couldn't agree with you more. We are so blessed to have food whenever we want it and a roof over our heads. While I was reading about Judith, I began to wonder why she left her native land to come to America? Do you think it was for a better life? Her life sounds so hard so I wonder what her life could've been like before that. How do you think Judith's life would've been had her first husband not died? I'm sure it would have been very different from her life with Pierre Manigault.
I also wondered how Judith died. I wish they would've told us that bit of information. What are some ways you could go about finding this information? According to the reading, I feel like she & Pierre were semi-wealthy. So I was thinking that she probably had very good doctors and good healthcare.
Also, I'm not sure if you knew this or not but I had to look up what "cooperage" meant. According to Webster, it means "the ancient art of hand crafting wine barrels". I always make sure to look up any words that I do not know the meaning of, it makes me understand the text a lot better.
:)
Hey amanda it was great to hear back from you!
ReplyDeleteSorry it hace been a couple of days my internet was out for a while and i couldn't get on:(
Anyways back to the book, Im asuming that yes she did come to america for a better life. Maybe she thought that if she just hgot out of there she would have a better chance. Im sure that if her husband was there it woulve made life a lot easier on her so that she didnt have to do most of the work which was probably very hard.
i looked up how Judith died and it didnt give me any good information on it. It did say that before her husband dies he was very succesfull i his work which i thought was odd since she was very poor.
well, i will post my other reading soon. Just thoough i would reply to you since i just got the internet back:)
Hope to hear from you soon!
OH MY GOODNESS.
ReplyDeletei am so sorry i totaly forgot io thought that i had posted but i guess not. i just found out. forgive me! haha
anyays so i will just go ahead and post hopefully you will comment back soon.
These readings helped me understand South Carolina history beacusee often times the women did ahve to support thir familys. They had to go to work a lot of times and fend for themselves.
so when I read henrie4ttas story it made me realize that alot of people throughout this booke not just her will have done the same thing. Not only cook and clean but also work and prvide money fro the famil and do all the handy work the men had to do.
sorry it took me so long hopefully ill hear from yo soon:)
Hey Sydney. Don't worry, it's no problem.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. I can't imagine having to take care of a family all on my own and work. I enjoyed that her husband felt that there would be no future in her paintings but she definitely proved him wrong. I think that just goes to show you that you can achieve anything if you just put you mind to it. I also say you should do what makes you happy.
I bet you enjoyed reading about Henrietta. You could probably relate to her through your photography and her paintings. I wonder how much she got paid for her paintings in those days and how often she was able to paint?
Did you also read about Elizabeth Ann Timothy? I wonder what he felt like to be the first American woman newspaper journalist. That wold be so exciting but also very nerve-racking for the time period. I'm sure she had to face many obstacles for being a woman journalist.
I hope you're having a great week and I hope to hear from you soon :)
